At Allegheny Family Network (AFN), we believe education can transform lives and we understand that for many adults, returning to school can feel out of reach. Between work schedules, childcare, transportation, and the cost of testing, the path to a GED can seem filled with roadblocks.

That’s exactly why AFN created the Adult Education Program that removes those barriers and opens doors for every adult who dreams of continuing their education. When the program began, our team identified the three most common challenges learners face: transportation, childcare, and testing costs. From the start, we made it our mission to eliminate them.

Through this program, AFN provides:

  • Free local shuttle transportation, so getting to class is never a challenge

  • Free childcare during class hours, so parents can focus on learning without worry

  • Free GED testing and supplies, so cost is never a barrier to success

  • Individualized learning opportunities, tailored to each student’s goals and pace

  • A supportive classroom environment, where encouragement and connection thrive

  • A graduation ceremony each September to honor every achievement and celebrate success

But the journey doesn’t stop at graduation. AFN continues to support students beyond their GED, helping them take the next steps toward employment, training programs, or college enrollment. We know that earning a GED is just one milestone in a much larger journey. We are committed to walking beside our students every step of the way.

As a family organization, AFN is uniquely positioned to provide wraparound support that goes far beyond education. Our staff can connect participants with a wide range of family resources and community support, ensuring that every learner and their family have the tools they need to thrive.

Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., with tutoring sessions available Mondays and Wednesdays at AFN’s North Office (1600 Pacific Avenue, Suite 10, Natrona Heights).

If you’ve ever thought about finishing your education or earning your GED, there’s no better time than now. At AFN, you’ll find a community that believes in you, supports you, and celebrates every step of your success.
